Organizing Your Fridge To Promote Healthy Eating

Organizing your fridge to promote healthy eating is one of the easiest things you can do. Depending on your taste, as well as what eating style you are drawn to, this process will look different. I mentioned in this Youtube video how much I enjoy things looking beautiful for my state of mind and that carries over to the fridge as well.

Have Healthy Options At Eye Level
You’ll notice in the above picture, as soon as you open the doors you are face to face with prepped and ready produce. It’s easy for our family to pop a lid and instantly have healthy snacks. When it’s the first thing you see, you are more likely to make a healthy choice.

Prep And Make Beautiful
We usually get our groceries on Thursday mornings and Friday has become the day I prep the fridge. I love these 64oz mason jars and beautiful wooden lids to hold fruits and veggies. I wash all the produce, dry it, put a paper towel in the bottom of each jar and add the produce. It takes a little time to prepare, but will ultimately save you time throughout the week when you have everything ready to eat. Be sure to dry everything as much as you can before putting them in the jars to keep from any mold or sogginess. Veggies like carrots and celery are the exception. I cut these up and submerge them in water in the jar to keep them extra crispy.

Snack Prep
Making your own grab and go snacks doesn’t have to take a ton of time and can be so much healthier than store bought, highly processed snacks. Most packaged snacks are full of added sugars, preservatives, artificial ingredients and lack any sort of nutrition. It is definitely worth it to take an hour a week to make healthier alternatives to your favorite snacks. Currently, we are loving these protein balls, which have 7 grams of protein per ball/serving. Made with peanut butter, oats, maple syrup, mini chocolate chips and protein powder. Be careful which protein powder you choose as many are filled with chemicals and additives. Things like BPA’s, lead, pesticides and arsenic are just a few of the contaminants found in certain brands of protein powder. Our favorite is Equip which is a clean protein made from grass-fed beef isolate. I encourage you to do your own research and find a brand that works for your family. We use vanilla flavor in these protein balls but they have other flavors and they all taste great. You can find the recipe for these below. Try them out and let me know what you think!
Enjoy Your Fridge Again
Don’t be intimidated by the idea of creating a beautiful, healthy fridge. It’s easier than you think and the benefits go far beyond the aesthetic. Make your weekly prep time a ritual of sorts that you look forward to. Put on your favorite music, get your diffuser going and get to prepping.
