Wondering how to make healthy eating fun for kids? I’ve got a super simple solution for you.

Having four kids can create some push and pull over lunch time but I finally have a system in place to create some peace. I first stumbled across this idea on Superhealthykids.com and it was a game changer. We will never go back to our old, stressful way of trying to figure out some sort of healthy option for lunch.

The System

Start by creating a list with the following headings, Carb, Protein, Veggie, Fruit and Fun Snack. Every family is different so what you decide to list under each heading will be up to you. Feel free to add as many options as you’d like. Once you have your list set, you’re ready for the easiest weekly lunch choices. This is the fun part where your kids get to choose what they’d like for lunch for the week. For our family, I let them pick one item from each heading and that will be their lunch for the week. Once I get set for the next week’s grocery shopping, they get to come back and do it again.

Feel Free To Switch It Up

If you feel like they are needing more fruits or veggies, have them pick two from those headings. The beauty is you are able to customize their choices to what you feel would be best for them but they are still the ones getting to make the final decision. They feel empowered and lunch time becomes something they look forward to. That in itself is a win.

Everyone’s Happy

Creating a system to make your life easier as well as giving your children responsibility and confidence to make healthy decisions is a win, win. When your kids are able to make their own choices they are more inclined to get excited and enjoy the choice they have made. Empower them while also taking what would be another decision you would have to make off your plate.
