Closet Clean Out 2025

Spring has sprung and it’s time to start tackling those tough spots of your house. Welcome to closet clean out 2025! My closet has been a room in our house that makes my stomach turn thinking about all the help it needs. Today I buckled down and turned it into all I knew it could be. Nothing fancy but clean, organized and easy to maintain. That’s everything I wanted! Join me and let’s get to organizing!
The Elephant In The Room
Before we get into the actual decluttering and organizing let’s talk about the elephant in the room. The mental part of this process can be tough. Looking around at all the clothes you have spent money on and deciding to just be done with them can cause some big emotions. It can be overwhelming to be face to face with a bunch of decisions you’ve made over the years and to think through the financial aspect of that. Show yourself grace and make a commitment to be more intentional with your purchases moving forward. Give yourself permission to say goodbye to the items that just don’t work with where your life is at this moment. Maybe it’s because they don’t fit or maybe it’s just because you don’t love them the way you once did. Whatever the reason, it’s ok to let go.
It Has To Get Worse Before It Gets Better
Going into this remind yourself that it’s going to look a lot worse before it gets better. That’s just part of the process. Start at the very top of your closet and remove every single thing as you make your way all the way down to the floor. As you’re removing things, begin placing them into piles. There’s no perfect way to do this but figure out what makes sense for you. I chose to place them in piles by type of clothing. You can get as specific as you want. I had all my pants divided into jeans, sweatpants, yoga pants and dress pants. Dresses were divided into summer casual, dressy and skirts. As I pulled each item out I had a designated donation pile so I knew exactly what was being kept and what was going.

I can’t believe I’m sharing this picture of the chaos on my bedroom floor. It was crazy but I kept telling myself that it was all part of the process and it would feel so good once it was accomplished.
Do the same process with your shoes, handbags, hats, belts, etc. Keep telling yourself if you don’t absolutely love the item, it’s time to find it a new home. As you continue decluttering, this process will get easier and the attachment you feel for things won’t be as strong as it once was. Give yourself time and keep at it.
You Don’t Need Expensive Closet Systems
Of course, having a fancy closet system can look beautiful and add amazing organization but you don’t have to spend a ton of money to see a transformation. The one thing I bought that I had been eyeing for a few years were velvet hangers. I know it seems silly but that little $30 investment for 100 hangers has added so much joy to my life. I love the way it looks having all uniform hangers lined up in my closet. I bought my velvet hangers at Target but these are similar from Amazon.

The only other purchase I made were these yoga pant hangers. Amazing! I also used them to hang my hats and biker shorts. They work like a dream and make all those tight fitting pants and shorts look so organized. I highly recommend them.

I already had this white wooden shoe rack to keep my tennis shoes and slides easily accessible. It’s nothing fancy but it does exactly what I need it to. I need to be able to easily get my shoes on and off and put them away hassle free. This checks all those boxes.

Don’t Wait Just Get To Work
There’s no better time than now to get to work. Once you have decluttered, donated, cleaned and set up your new closet space you will be so happy. Having a clean and organized space to walk into each and every day will do wonders for your stress and how you start your day. Do something for yourself today and get in that closet!

Leave a comment and let me know what your favorite part of the process was.
Happy Organizing!
